Equivalency of American curriculum certificates in the United Arab Emirates
We have all been there. Lost and confused as to how to get the equivalency for our high school certificate so that we can apply to a university or college. Because we understand the struggle, we have done the research for you and we present you with our findings:
What are the requirements for American curriculum certificates’ equivalency in the UAE
- A copy of the graduation diploma
- A copy of the academic transcripts for grades 10, 11, and 12
- The student should pass 5 Ministry of Education approved subjects successfully other than Arabic and Islamic studies
- Note:
- Taking Islamic Studies during the last 3 years of study is required for Muslim students
- Taking Arabic during the last 3 years of study is required for students with an Arab nationality
- Note:
- English fluency requirement: The student is required to have one of the below
- Pass the EmSAT English test with a score of 1100 or more, or
- Pass the Academic IELTS test with a score of 5.0 or higher, or
- Pass the TOEFL iBT test with a score of 61 or more
- Math proficiency requirement: The student is required to have one of the below
- Pass the EmSAT Math test with a score of 500 or more, or
- Pass the SAT 1 Math section with a score of 450 or higher
If the English or Math proficiency requirement is not met, a limited equivalency outcome could be issued.
How to apply for the equivalency in the UAE
The Ministry of Education in the United Arab Emirates is responsible for high school equivalencies. In order to apply for the equivalency, you have to follow these steps:
- Visit the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Education website and create an account
- Head over to the Request For Equivalency Of General Education Certificate In The UAE (Grade 12) service
- Submit the required documents
- Pay the fees related to the application once you receive it
- Provide any additional information or documents that may be required after the application has been reviewed by the equalization officer
- Pay applicable fees
- Your application will be forwarded to an Equivalency Specialist or to a committee (in special cases)
- You will receive the final decision (Equalize/ Reject) on your equivalency via the portal, email, and SMS.
